When a lawn is past saving, the answer is to start again properly. We lift the old grass, take it away, get the soil right and lay fresh turf, and most gardens are finished within a day.
When a full replacement makes sense
Feeding, scarifying and overseeding can bring back a lawn that's a bit thin. But some lawns have gone too far: more moss than grass, bare patches that never fill, bumps and hollows, or a mix of weeds and coarse grasses. Replacing it gives you an even, healthy lawn in one go, without a season or two of patching.
It also makes sense when you want to change the shape of the lawn, widen a border or straighten an edge, because everything gets reset at once.

What happens on the day
Old lawn lifted
The old grass is cut out at an even depth with its roots, rolled up and loaded for removal.
Soil broken up and cleared
We loosen compacted ground and pick out stones, roots and debris.
Levelled and topped up
Low spots are filled with topsoil and the whole area raked level and firm.
Fresh turf laid
Rolls go down tight with staggered joints, then the edges are cut clean.
Watered in
A thorough first soak, and we talk you through the next few weeks.
Where the waste goes
Lifted turf and the soil that comes with it are taken away as part of the job, so there's no skip to hire and nothing left in your garden. If we find builders' rubble, hardcore or old paving under the lawn, that's priced separately because it's heavier and costs more to dispose of. We'll always explain and agree it with you first.
Getting the new lawn off to a good start
The first two to three weeks are the important ones. Water every day unless it rains properly, keep off as much as you can and let the roots knit into the soil. Our aftercare guide has a simple plan to follow.

Do you take the old lawn away?
Yes, the lifted turf and soil are taken away as part of the job. Builders' rubble is priced separately.
Can you replace part of a lawn?
Yes. If one area is worn but the rest is fine, we can replace just that section, though matching new turf to an older lawn won't be exact at first.
Will the new lawn be level with my patio?
We set the soil level so the finished turf sits just below paving edges, which makes mowing easier.
How soon can I use the lawn?
Light use after around three weeks, once the turf has rooted. Give it longer before heavy play.
