1. Your quote

We price your job from what you tell us (measurements, photos and notes) and from anything we see if we visit. Your quote shows how long the price stands.

Each part of the work is listed separately, such as lifting the old lawn, ground preparation, topsoil, turf, laying and taking waste away. Builders' rubble, where it has to be removed, is its own item. All prices include VAT.

If we find something on the day that wasn't expected, such as rubble below the surface, a bigger area or harder access than described, we'll stop, explain the difference and agree any extra cost with you before carrying on.

2. Deposit and payment

To book, accept your quote and pay the deposit amount shown on your quote. The deposit is taken off your final bill.

The balance is due on the day work begins. Turf and materials stay ours until the bill has been paid in full.

3. Your 14-day right to cancel

This contract is made at a distance or away from business premises, so you can cancel within 14 days of accepting your quote without giving a reason. Tell us by email at info@turflayingnewcastle.co.uk or in writing to the address in the last section of these terms.

If you'd like the work to start inside those 14 days, ask us in writing. If you then cancel before work begins, you pay for costs we've already committed to that we can't recover, such as turf cut for your job. Once work has started on site, the full price is due.

You can use this wording if it helps: "I cancel my contract for turf laying at [address], accepted on [date]. Name, address, signature (if on paper), date."

4. Changing or cancelling after 14 days

If you need to change your date, tell us as early as you can and we'll find another day; your deposit moves with it. If you cancel after the 14 days, we keep the deposit to cover our costs, and you pay for any turf already ordered or cut for you.

5. Weather and dates

We set dates in good faith. Frozen or waterlogged ground, turf availability or an earlier job running over can mean a change. If that happens, we'll tell you and offer another date. Most gardens are finished within a day; larger or more involved gardens can take longer.

6. Access and underground services

Please make sure we can get to the lawn safely, unload nearby and use an outside tap. Let us know when you ask for your quote if the only way in is through the house or garage.

Tell us about any buried pipes, cables, drains, soakaways or sprinkler lines, and mark them if you can, before work begins. We aren't responsible for damage to hidden services we weren't told about and couldn't reasonably have found.

7. Turf is a natural product

Turf is grown in fields, so its colour and texture vary with the season and from one harvest to another. Torn edges and rolls in more than one piece happen when fresh turf is harvested; they settle in once laid and aren't a fault. If the turf on your quote isn't available, we may use a similar one.

8. Aftercare

New turf needs regular, thorough watering until it roots, and we'll explain watering and the first mow before we leave. After it's laid, how well turf takes depends on things outside our control, such as watering, weather, soil and use, so we can't guarantee it will take.

If you're worried about your lawn, send us photos as soon as you can and we'll do what we reasonably can to help.

9. Photographs

We may take before and after photos of your garden for our records and as examples of our work. We keep people, house numbers and vehicle registrations out of shot. If you'd rather your photos weren't used in our marketing, just tell us.

10. Liability

We'll carry out the work with reasonable care and skill. If we break these terms or are negligent, we're responsible for loss or damage that was reasonably foreseeable. We aren't responsible for loss that couldn't have been foreseen, or for business losses.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. None of this affects your statutory rights.

11. General

Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information. We may update these terms; the version on our website on the day you accept your quote applies to your job. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
