Washington was built as a new town in districts it calls villages, each with its own cul-de-sacs, footpaths and green spaces. Most homes have a lawn front and back, and many of them are now due a refresh.

New-town gardens

Most of Washington's homes were built from the late 1960s onwards, arranged around cul-de-sacs and footpaths, with open-plan front lawns and fenced back gardens. After several decades, many of these lawns have thinned, gone mossy or turned bumpy. Others have been worn by children and pets.

Typical Washington jobs

GardenWhat's involved
Open-plan front lawnLifted and replaced, edged neatly against neighbours' grass and the path
Back lawn behind a fenceOld turf out, clay loosened, levelled, new turf laid
Corner plot with a big side lawnMore turf, but usually easy access
Newer homes on the edgesBuilder's turf replaced on properly prepared ground

Washington Village

The old village at the heart of the town has older stone houses and cottages, with more varied gardens and sometimes trickier access. We'll plan around it.

The ground

Washington sits on clay, like much of the area. Good preparation, breaking up compaction and adding topsoil where it's thin, gives the new lawn the best chance of staying green and even.

Common questions

Do you cover all of Washington's villages?

Yes, every one.

My front lawn is open-plan. Can you replace just mine?

Yes. We cut a clean edge where your new lawn meets the neighbour's.
