Bedlington sits on a ridge above the River Blyth, with its broad, green-edged Front Street at the old heart of the town. Out from there are colliery terraces, decades of estate housing and new developments, plus the villages of Choppington, Stakeford and Guide Post.
Where Bedlington's gardens differ
The older stone and brick houses around Front Street often have long, narrow back gardens with old walls and mature planting. Bedlington Station, on the eastern side, grew up around the railway and the pits, so terraces with yards are more common there.
Between and around them, estates from the 1950s onwards give most families a lawn at the front and a bigger one at the back. Those are the lawns that wear out first: thin under the trampoline, bare by the back door and mossy along the fence.

Typical Bedlington jobs
-
Lawn replacement
Old estate lawns with moss, bare patches and bumps lifted and relaid.
-
Yard lawns
Terrace yards at Bedlington Station turned from slabs or gravel to grass.
-
New-build fixes
Builder's turf replaced once the clay underneath is broken up.
-
Sloping gardens
Gardens falling towards the valley levelled, or turfed across the slope.
Gardens on the slope to the river
The land drops away on the south side of town towards the River Blyth and the woods along it. Gardens on that side can fall steeply from the house, sometimes in steps or old terraces. A gentle fall can be turfed as it is, with the rolls laid across the slope and pinned where needed; steeper ground may need regrading first, and that's something we'd discuss when we quote.
Lower parts of these gardens can hold water after rain, particularly on clay. If one end of your lawn stays soft for days, mention it, because it changes how we prepare the ground. Our guide to waterlogged lawns explains the options.
Common questions
Do you work in Choppington and Stakeford?
Yes, and in Guide Post, Netherton and the Sleekburns too.
Can you lay turf where an old garden wall casts shade?
Yes. Shade from walls and trees is common in older Bedlington gardens. We prepare the soil well and give you mowing and watering advice that suits a lawn in partial shade.
What if the garden slopes?
Gentle slopes turf well. For steeper ones we'll suggest options, which might include regrading part of the garden, before you decide.
