Beating the Heat
Laying turf in June, July, or August provides instant gratification for your summer garden parties. The hot soil actually encourages the fastest root growth of the entire year. However, the intense heat also means the turf is at its most vulnerable to drying out and shrinking.
The Golden Rules of Summer Turfing
- Immediate Watering: We heavily soak the topsoil before laying the turf, and you must soak the grass the literal minute we finish the installation.
- The 14-Day Soaking Rule: You must commit to watering the lawn heavily twice a day (early morning and late evening) for the first two weeks. If the soil base dries out, the rolls will shrink and yellow gaps will appear.
- Stay Off It: Because the topsoil is being kept artificially wet to combat the sun, the ground will be soft. Walking on the new turf will leave deep, permanent footprints.
If you are prepared to water it diligently, a summer installation yields a stunning, rapidly established lawn.
