The Danger Zone
When fresh turf is harvested at the farm, its root system is sliced off. When we lay it in your garden, the grass is essentially on life support. It has no deep roots to draw moisture from the earth. For the first two weeks, it relies 100% on you providing water from above.
The 14-Day Watering Schedule
- Days 1 to 7: The Soaking Phase. You must water the turf twice a day (early morning and late evening). Do not just sprinkle the top; you must water heavily enough that if you lift a corner of the turf, the soil underneath is soaking wet.
- Days 8 to 14: The Rooting Phase. As the roots begin to knit into the soil, you can reduce watering to once a day. Keep checking the edges of the rolls; if you see gaps appearing, the turf is shrinking because it is too dry.
- Days 15+: Deep Watering. You can transition to watering deeply every 2 to 3 days, encouraging the roots to drive further down into the topsoil in search of moisture.
Never water in the blazing midday sun, as the water will evaporate instantly and can scorch the grass blades.
