The Danger of the Bargain Roll
When shopping around for turf, you will see wild variations in price. You might find a local garden center selling rolls for half the price of a professional landscaping quote. The temptation to buy cheap is high, but the fallout is usually disastrous.
What are you actually buying?
- Budget Turf: Often consists of weak meadow grasses grown on poor soil. The rolls are cut thin, meaning they tear easily and hold almost no moisture. Worse, budget turf is often cut days in advance and sits baking on a pallet outside the shop, slowly dying before it even reaches your garden.
- Premium Turf: Grown over 12-18 months on rich, dark soil. It is a specific blend of dwarf ryegrass and fescues designed for deep rooting and disease resistance. Most importantly, it is morning-cut—harvested from the field and laid in your garden on the exact same day.
By investing in premium turf from the start, you avoid the cost of having to rip up and replace a dead, yellowing lawn six months later.
