The Nitrogen Trap
If you go to a garden center and buy a standard box of 'Lawn Feed', it will be packed with Nitrogen. Nitrogen forces grass blades to grow tall and green very quickly. If you apply this to newly laid turf, you will force the plant to exhaust all its energy growing leaves before it has established a root system. The turf will rapidly burn out and die.
The Pre-Turfing Secret: Phosphorus
Before new turf is laid, the soil needs a massive injection of Phosphorus (P). Phosphorus is the chemical responsible for explosive, deep root growth.
We apply a specialised pre-turfing granular fertilizer directly onto the topsoil bed before the turf is unrolled. As the new lawn is watered, the high-phosphorus feed dissolves directly into the root zone beneath the grass, encouraging the severed roots to rapidly anchor into the earth. Once the lawn is fully established (after 6-8 weeks), you can transition to a standard balanced seasonal feed.
